nFACES Fellowships
The
FACES Fellowship represents an important component of the FACES
program. FACES (Facilitating Academic Careers in Engineering and
Science) is a collaborative effort between the College of
Engineering and College of Sciences at the Georgia Institute of
Technology, Morehouse College, Emory University and Spelman College designed to
significantly increase the number of African American students
receiving doctoral degrees in engineering and science fields.
Ultimately FACES seeks to increase the number of African Americans
entering the science and engineering professoriate.
Incoming and continuing graduate students who are committed to
pursuing a Ph.D. degree are eligible to be considered for a FACES
Fellowship. The FACES Fellowship provides and add-on stipend of
either $3,000 or $5,000 per year, depending on the status of the
student’s Ph.D. candidacy. The stipend will be in addition to
any and all other forms of support the student receives, such as
research assistantships, teaching assistantships and other
fellowships. When a recipient of a FACES Fellowship is officially
advanced to Ph.D. candidacy, having successfully completed the
comprehensive examinations, the student’s stipend will increase
from $3,000 to $5,000 per year.
In
addition to receiving monetary support, the FACES Fellows will
participate in a number of workshops designed to help them excel
in graduate school and prepare them for careers in research and
academia.
Only
continuing students formally apply for the FACES Fellowships,
while incoming students are considered on the basis of their
graduate school applications.
If you
are a continuing Georgia Tech Ph.D. or prospective Ph.D. student
in the College of Engineering, College of Sciences or College of
Computing, you may download an application form
